Abstract:

The arrival of the Nazis to power in Germany on 30 January 1933 led to radical changes in the field of publishing in the country. The Nazi regime has censored the publications they consider a threat to themselves, and on the other hand has applied strict controls on the libraries in the country. The influence of the Nazis on publishing in Germany is symbolized by the book burning (Bücherverbrennung) campaign that took place with the participation of the German Student Association (DSt). In the book burning campaign of the Nazis, books were targeted which were qualified as harmful or representing ideologies against the Nazi ideology. In addition to the elimination of publications against the Nazi ideology, there were publications that praised the Nazi ideology and aimed at the adoption of their ideas by the German society. In these publications there were books that included the anti-Semitist statements of the Nazism ideology. In the study, the Nazi regime, the Nazi ideology, used the books for propaganda purposes in the publication of anti-Semitist speeches in the book "Trau keinem Fuchs auf grüner Heid und keinem Jud auf seinem Eid" (Trau keinem Fuchs auf grüner Heid und keinem Jud auf seinem Eid). In the framework of the study, the visual and written indicators contained in the book were studied using Karl Bühler’s Organon Model and Claude Lévi-Strauss’s Dual Confrontations Model. The study found that the book found that Jews were unwanted persons in the German society, and that the perceptions of their isolation and exclusion were created. In light of the findings obtained in this way, it can be made the conclusion that the anti-Semitist statements of the Nazi ideology are attempted to be adopted in the German society through the book.
