Abstract:

The aim of the current study is to examine collaboration and experiences with families in the Guidance and Research Center (GRC) ducational diagnosis and assessment process of individuals with special needs. 22 families participated in the study who have gone to an educational diagnosis and assessment at the GRC at least once. The current study was carried out with a semi-structured interview. The results are presented in relation to the aims of the study under four central themes: families' experiences with the educational assessment process, experiences of the families on sharing the educational assessment results, contribution/opinions of families in the annual assessment process, and suggestions for collaboration with families in the educational assessment process. The result of the current study indicate that the majority of the participants have both positive and negative experiences, limitations and expectations about collaboration, and do not know their rights in educational diagnosis and assessment process. Majority of the participants expressed their expectations from GRCs which are that the assessment period is not enough and there is a need for regulation on educational diagnosis and assessment.
