Abstract:

In this study, it is intended to illustrate the graduate theses made at the primary school level related to fluid reading in Turkey. In the study, the methods of documentation of the state work have been used. The sample of the study consists of a total of 11 undergraduate theses, including 2 doctoral theses, 9 master theses, published between 2012 and 2018. In the study, the method of document analysis was used as a data collection tool. The examples of the graduate theses received by the author, year, institution, the type of thesis, purpose, method, smooth reading strategies, sampling characteristics, data collection tools, data analysis methods and results are organized and analyzed. Graduate theses at the primary school level related to fluid reading in Turkey have been used semi-experimental, experimental, non-experimental, action research, facts scientific and mixed methods. Fluid reading strategies used in the theses used fluid reading strategies such as parallel reading, coro reading, structured reading, repeated reading, SQ3R, six-minute method, brilliant reading, reader theatres and sharing reading. Examples are used for the purpose of sampling, easy sampling, unselective sampling methods. The results of the graduate theses used in fluid reading strategies show that fluid reading strategies improve students’ reading speeds, proper reading skills, prozodic reading skills, understanding what they read, academic achievements and reading motivations in a positive direction. As a result; in Turkey, a variety of undergraduate theses have been published using different purposes and different methods related to fluid reading at the primary school level. These studies have shown that smooth reading strategies enhance smooth reading skills. In recent years, it has been found that more research in this field needs to be done compared to the publication of at least one postgraduate thesis each year on fluid reading.
