Abstract:

The increase in the world has led to industrialization, technological developments, and increased production and consumption. This situation poses a threat to the world by causing unconscious use of natural resources, environmental pollution and raw material problems. The concept of sustainability has emerged in order to meet needs and protect natural resources. Sustainability means leaving the natural and renewable resources used to meet today's needs to future generations. Concepts such as sustainable agriculture, sustainable design, sustainable energy, sustainable tourism and sustainable life have been created in the name of a cleaner environment and protection of natural resources. Fungi are easily biodegradable and do not harm the environment. These properties make them a sustainable material option. Fungi cultivation produces much less greenhouse gas emissions than other types of agriculture. This makes them an important tool in the fight against climate change. Fungi can be used as sustainable alternatives to many materials such as leather, plastic and foam. Because it is recyclable and biodegradable, fungi-based leather is used as an environmentally friendly product in many areas such as textiles, furniture, construction and packaging. In this research, in addition to being a food source, the usage areas of fungi as a sustainable product in sectors such as leather, textile, foam and construction materials were examined. It is aimed to raise awareness about the usage areas of fungi, to increase these areas and to contribute to sustainable development.
