Aim: The aim of the study is to examine the expectation of pregnant women from midwives at birth. Material and Methods: The type of research is descriptive. Sampling consisted of 170 pregnant women who applied to the pregnancy policlinic of a state hospital. Pregnants who were over 20th weeks of gestation that have not any communication disabling and accepted to participate in this research are included in this research. The survey form consisted of 17 questions about sociodemographic data, obstetrical history, and expectations from midwives during birth. Institutional permission, ethics committee permission, and the participants' written confirmation were taken for the research. Descriptive statistics and chi-square test were used for data analysis. Results: Average ages of pregnants that formed research group is 27.00 ± 5.27. It was found that 58.2% of the pregnant women participating in the study are between 36-40 of gestational weeks. The first three characteristics that pregnant women expect to be the most in midwives attending their deliveries; empathy (24.1%), similing (21.2%), and good behavior (15.9%). The characteristics that pregnant women do not want to have in midwives attending their births are; irritable (50.6%), rude (27.6%) and indifferent (5.9%) were reported. A statistically significant difference was found between age, education, employment status, gestational week, parity, participation in pregnant information class and some expected and unexpected characteristics from midwives (p <0.05). Conclusion: The most expressed expectation of pregnant women is that midwives have positive communication features during labor. It is important for pregnant women to empathize, be smiling, and behave well from midwives who attend the birth; it was found that she expected not to be irritable, rude, and indifferent at birth.
