Abstract:

Ivan Aleksandrovich Gonçarov, XIX. He is one of the most important writers of Russian literature. In 1847, with his first novel, A Normal Story (Obyknovna Historia), the writer, who took his place in Russian literature, was influenced by the positive assessments of Vissarion Grigoryevich Belinski, an active critic of the time, and created the draft of his second novel, Oblomov (Oblomov). The novel of Oblomov, published in 1859, makes the writer recognized worldwide. By 1869 the author's third and last novel was published Yamaç (Obryv). The importance of this novel, one of the classic works of Russian realism, is hidden in the reflection of the daily life realities of the Russian society in the 1840s and 1850s, the profound crisis created by land slavery on society, the great tragedy in the conflict of the old and the new in an objective perspective. The main hero of the work is the aristocrat Boris Pavlovich Rayski. Rayski, who decides to become an artist by denying the fate of the soy carpet to him, XIX. The century wants the Russians to not be captured by the suffering of their mustarip. According to Rayski, the only thing that will drive this age is passion. In this sense, in showing the different aspects of Rayski's personality characteristics, the female characters in the work take great importance for Sofia, Marfinka, Vera and grandmother Tatyana Markovna. In this study, according to Gonçarov's art understanding, the aim is to study the female characters in the novel Yamaç with a comparative approach and to reveal their original aspects.
