Abstract:

The aim of this study is to determine the trend in adventure tourism in the last 20 years by examining 73 articles published between 2000-2020 in the field of adventure tourism from a bibliometric perspective. In the study, the data obtained by using the bibliometrix library of the R program for bibliometric analysis were depicted with visual mapping technique. Descriptive data analysis, word cloud, factor analysis, co-association, citation, triple comparison, multiple reciprocity and social network analysis were applied in the study. According to the results of the research, the most publications were published in 2017 (n=14) and Tourism Management (n=10). It has been determined that keywords and reference sources are divided into three groups. The most used country in the title was New Zealand (n=7). Bentley and Page are among the authors who contributed significantly to the field. In earlier, it has been observed that while most accidents, risks and injuries were studied, today sustainability, motivation, experience and nature issues are emphasized. While academic studies published in Australia received the highest number of citations (n=534), articles published in the United Kingdom (n=16) were more frequently cited in international cooperation. It is anticipated that the results of this study will benefit researchers in terms of presenting a broad perspective on the development process of the field and as a roadmap for further scientific studies.
