Introduction: In this study, the relationship between serum magnesium (Mg) levels and cardiovascular risk factors were investigated in overweight and obese Turkish women. Materials and Methods: Overweight (Body massindex >25 and <30 kg/m2) 409 and obese (Body mass index >30 kg/m2) 1502 women were enrolled into the study. The mean serum Mg concentration was 0.83±0.1 mmol/L (N:0.21-1.18). The patients were divided into two grup according to the serum Mg concentrations. Group I (n=980) consist of serum Mg ≤0.83 mmol/L and Group II consist of serum Mg ≥0.84 mmol/L. The groups were compared for metabolic risk markers regards of cardiovascular disease. Results: The mean age of the patients was 40.2±12.0 years and 42.1±12.0 years, in group I and in group II, respectively. Fasting plasma glucose, insulin, HOMA, HbA1c, and triglyceride levels were significantly higher in Group I compared to Group II (p<0.01). Total Cholesterol, LDL-C and HDL-C were significantly higher in Group II compared to Group I (p<0.05). Systolic and diastolic blood pressure was not significantly different between two groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: These results show that serum Mg levels can be used as a cardiovascular risk marker
