Abstract:

Memory studies have started to be studied on many different subjects in academia and have created a discipline field that includes oral history studies. Memory has a close relationship with many concepts such as migration, space, war, history, earthquake and genocide. One of the studies dealing with the relationship of memory with migration and space is Betül Ok Şehitoğlu's work titled Migration-Memory-Space-A Phenomenological Research-, which she published from her doctoral thesis. In this study, the effect of the immigrant's memory on the space was investigated and some data were obtained through interviews. The book consists of three parts in total, excluding the preface, introduction, epilogue, bibliography, appendices and index. escribing the adventure of writing the book in the Preface section, the author talks about his conversation with a Syrian immigrant, whose house he went to during the fieldwork. “Do you miss your home? I posed the question. He said, “I miss you so much. In fact, the sofa you were sitting on was in this corner of the house in Syria. It was on the left when you entered the door. We paid attention to this when choosing a house. We didn't have much choice, but it came across. I put the sofa here just to make this place feel like home, to make it look like my home. To remember it and not forget it” (p. 14). While this dialogue constitutes the purpose of writing the book, it draws attention to how the experiences of immigrants through space are remembered.
