Abstract:

The intertextuality is based on the assumption that no text is pure and the search for the very first text is meaningless, and that the texts exist in formal and semantic relations with their antecedents. The discovery and interpretation of these relationship networks between antecedent and consequent texts, which are established in the scope of certain methods, are within the context of intertextuality. Intertextuality, which is a space and context-changing process, is one of the most important concepts that give the textuality characteristic to a text. Intertextuality can also become meaningful for the architectural production, which is regarded as a textual representation. It is clear that an architectural structure, which is a meaningful system and a semiotic element, is shaped together with the previous references as well as the elements such as needs, production life, technology, social life, the geography where it is produced, and etc. The architecture, which is produced by stratifying with the accumulation of new knowledge every time, is intertextual with this characteristic. The 'intertextuality' phenomenon that contributes to the production of the 'new' by creating different meaning effects between the antecedent and consequent constructions is an alternative way of interpreting the architectural constructions. In this study, which aims to question the intertextual status of the architectural production, the purpose is to present a methodological approach to intertextual interpretations in the architecture. The intertextuality, which is considered to be a possible tool for interpreting the architecture, will be assessed in the context of architectural production, and within the scope of the antecedent and consequent textual relationships, on which it is based, and various methods that establish these relations.
