Ambulans Çalışanlarında Travma Sonrası Stres ve Depresyon Belirtilerinin İncelenmesi

Amaç: Ambulans çalışanları meslekleri gereği yoğun bir şekilde travmatik yaşam olaylarına tanık olmaktadırlar. Bu tanıklık yaşantılarının kendi hayatlarını ruhsal olarak etkileme boyutunu, travma sonrası stres ve depresyon belirtilerine bakarak incelemek amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Araştırmanın örneklemi Mersin Acil Sağlık Hizmetleri İstasyonlarında çalışan 27’si kadın ve 32’i erkekten oluşan 59 ambulans çalışanıdır. Veri toplama araçları olarak Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Mesleki Bilgi Formu, Travmatik Stres Belirti Ölçeği, Yeti Yitimi Formu ve Beck Depresyon Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Tanımlayıcı istatistikler yüzde, ortalama, standart sapma değerleri ile verilmiştir. Verilerin analizinde Mann Whitney-U testi, student t testi, One-Way Anova testi, Ki-kare testi, pearson ya da spearman korelasyon analizleri kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Mesleki travma yaşantıları olan ambulans çalışanlarında travmatik stres bozukluğu tanı oranı %16,9; depresyon belirtilerinin görülme oranı hafif, orta ve şiddetli yelpazesinde %47,4 olarak gözlemlenmiştir. Katılımcıların Travmatik Stres Belirtileri Ölçeği’nin alt ölçekleri ve toplam puanı ile Beck Depresyon Ölçeği puanı arasında pozitif yönde anlamlı bir ilişki vardır (p<0,05). Travma sonrası stres bozukluğu ve depresyon kadınlarda erkeklere oranla; yeniden yaşantılama belirtileri üniversite mezunlarında lise mezunlarına oranla daha yüksek bulgulanmıştır. Sonuç: Araştırma sonuçları, mesleki travma yaşantıları olan ambulans çalışanlarının travmatik stres ve depresyon belirtileri yaşadıklarını göstermektedir. Ambulans çalışanlarında travmatik stres ve depresyon belirtilerinin önlenmesi için kurumsal strateji sistemlerine koruyucu mesleki danışmanlık uygulamalarının eklenmesinin faydalı olacağı önerilmektedir.

Abstract:

Purpose: Ambulance workers are intense witnesses of traumatic life events due to their professions. The purpose of this testimony is to explore the extent of life experiences affecting their lives mentally, looking at the signs of post-traumatic stress and depression. Method: The examples of the study are 59 ambulance employees, including 27 women and 32 men, who work at the Mersin Emergency Health Services Stations. Data collection tools have been used as Personal Information Form, Professional Information Form, Traumatic Stress Sign Scale, Yeti Loss Form and Beck Depression Scale. Identifying statistics are given with percentage, average, standard deviation values. Data analysis used Mann Whitney-U test, student t test, One-Way Anova test, Ki-Care test, pearson or spearman correlation analysis. Results: Traumatic stress disorder diagnosed in ambulance workers with professional trauma experiences was 16.9% and depression symptoms were observed at 47.4% in the light, medium and severe range. Participants have a meaningful relationship in the positive direction between the lower scales and the total score of the traumatic stress symptoms scale and the Beck Depression scale score (p<0,05). Post-traumatic stress disorder and depression in women compared to men; symptoms of resuscitation have been found higher than high school graduates. Results: The research results show that ambulance workers with professional trauma experiences experience traumatic stress and symptoms of depression. Ambulance employees are advised to add protective professional consultancy practices to corporate strategy systems to prevent traumatic stress and symptoms of depression.

The aim of this study was to investigate the extent to which these testimony experiences affect their own lives psychologically by looking at the symptoms of post-traumatic stress and depression. Methods: The sample of the study was composed of 59 ambulance staff consisting of 27 women and 32 men working in Mersin Emergency Health Services Stations. Personal Information Form, Occupational Information Form, Traumatic Stress Symptom Scale, Severity of Disability Scale and Beck Depression Scale were used as data collection tools. Descriptive analyzes are given mean, standard deviation and percentage. Mann Whitney U test, student t test, One- Way Anova test, chi- square test, pearson or spearman correlation analysis was used for data analysis. Results: Diagnosis of traumatic stress disorder in ambulance workers with professional trauma experiences was 16.9%; depression symptoms rate was found to be in the mild, moderate, and severe range, at total of 47.4%. There was a significant positive correlation between the participant’s Traumatic Stress Symptom subscales and total scores and Beck Depression Scale scores (p<0.05). Higher posttraumatic stress disorder and depression was found in women compared to man and also re-experiencing symptoms were higher in university graduates than in high school graduates. Conclusion: The findings of the study showed that the ambulance staff showed traumatic stress and depression symptoms of their occupational trauma experiences. It is suggested that, adding preventive occupational counseling into the institutive strategy systems will be beneficial in order to prevent the traumatic stress and depression symptoms in ambulance staff.
