Football is the sport that appears as the most popular, which has the largest audience, and the largest financial movement, therefore, it came to be considered a business, in the entertainment field with strong commercial appeal. Due to the high figures involved in player trading, the training of athletes represents one of the most profitable assets of clubs. Brazil, being the most successful nation in football, has a strong work of training athletes, which is surrounded by multidisciplinary professionals who directly contribute to the quality of training of an athlete. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the existence of correlation, causes and effects between financial investment and sports performance of three clubs in Rio de Janeiro. Observing if the training of the athlete is more profitable than the hiring of professional athletes from the perspective of sports performance in competition. A documentary research was carried out on financial statements made available by clubs between 2010 and 2021 in public access on their websites. Expenses and income variables of the athlete training department were selected, which were submitted to inferential statistical analyzes of normality, variance, correlation and effect. The results showed that there is a correlation between financial investment and sports results, indicating that training athletes is more efficient than hiring professional athletes. There was no effect of the financial investment on the clubs' sporting results. It is concluded that the Fluminense teams obtained the best financial-sports result in relation to the other clubs analyzed.
