Abstract:

The individual and social effects of the problems that develop due to the misuse of addictive substance are getting deeper. The greatest danger that awaits people using these substances is the risk of addiction to the substance used over time. Studies on substance addiction show that the extent of the danger is not limited to users, and that non-users are also affected by this problem in different ways. The fact that larger masses are affected negatively increases the importance of studies aimed at understanding the nature and development of addiction. The aim of this study is to reveal the addiction typologies of adolescents who live in neighborhoods shaped by migration and who have made substance use an indispensable part of their life. In order to reveal these typologies, 13 cases of substance use in adolescence who dropped out from the school were interviewed, and how individuals interpreted the individual and environmental factors influencing their use of stuff in their own worlds were examined. The meanings attributed to the concept of addiction and the communication expressions they use among the cases were determined as one of the focal points of the study. As a result of the research, it was seen that individuals identify the substance they depend on with the most indispensable values in their lives while defining addiction. In addition, it was understood that they attribute different meanings to some idioms and expressions that are also used in folk language in order to communicate among themselves and thus develop a special terminology specific to the addiction subculture. Furthermore, in this study four main addiction typologies were determined that direct adolescents to the substance use, namely Family, Peer, Family-Peer, Relationship.
