Sanayi, bir yönüyle çevreyi iyileştirme özelliğine sahipken diğer bir yönüyle çevreyi bozma gücüne sahiptir. Bu nedenle, önemli olan husus, ekoloji ve sanayi dengesini sağlayarak ekolojiye zarar vermeyen sanayileşmenin gelişmesini sağlamaktır. Bu durum ise, sürdürülebilir sanayi politikalarının hayata geçirilmesiyle mümkün olacaktır. Bugün insanlığın ihtiyaçlarını karşılamak için kurulan sanayi tesisleri sürdürülebilir sanayi politikalarının etkili olmasıyla birlikte, gelecek kuşakların ihtiyaçlarını karşılayabilmesi için gerekli olan insan, hayvan ve bitki sağlığı gibi çevresel faktörleri zarara uğratmaksızın faaliyetlerini sürdürebilecektir. Sürdürülebilir sanayi politikaları, özellikle son dönemde öne çıkan, temiz üretim, endüstriyel simbiyoz, eko-tasarım ve eko-etiket gibi araçlarla kendisine uygulama alanı bulmaktadır. Sanayi üretimini kaliteli ve daha az maliyetle yapmak, sanayide kirliliği azaltıcı uygulamaları hayata geçirmek, enerjiyi daha verimli kullanmak, yenilenebilir enerjiye yönelmek, daha az atık üretmek, atıkları geri kazanmak ve yeniden kullanmak sürdürülebilir sanayide dikkat edilmesi gereken temel konular olarak gözükmektedir.
The industry has the ability to improve the environment in one way, while the other has the ability to distort the environment in the other. Therefore, the important thing is to ensure the development of industrialization that does not harm the ecology by ensuring ecological and industrial balance. This will be possible with the implementation of sustainable industrial policies. Today established industrial facilities to meet human needs; while sustainable industrial policies are effective, they will be able to continue their activities without damaging environmental factors such as human, animal and plant health that are necessary to meet future generations’ needs. Sustainable industrial policies find the scope of their application, especially in recent years, with tools such as clean production, industrial symbiosis, eco-design and eco-labeling. To make industrial production of quality and at a lower cost, to implement pollution-reducing practices in the industry, to use energy more efficiently, to turn towards renewable energy, to produce less waste, to recover waste and reuse it seems to be the main issues that should be taken into consideration in sustainable industry.
