Journal of Higher Education and Science

Abstract:

Öğrencilerin 225’i %65 kadın, 121’i %35 erkektir.

2019

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship of narcissism, the reasons for the use of "Facebook" and the styles of connection. The sample of the study consists of 346 university students who are studying at Samsun Ondokuz May University. 225 percent of students are women, and 121 percent are men. The average age of the individuals who enter the sample is =20.68 ss=1.838'. The study included questions about the personal information of the participants, the 'Personal Information Form', the 'Narsisism Personality Reserve' for the measurement of the levels of narcissism, the 'Enterly Relationship Reserve-II' for the measurement of the connectivity styles, and the scale developed for the relevant purpose for the measurement of the reasons for the use of 'Facebook'. The data was analyzed using SPSS 22. In accordance with the purpose of the study, Pearson moment ratio and multi-facet variance analysis were used MANOVA. The findings obtained as a result of the statistical processes are as follows: a positive meaningful relationship between the student’s narcissism level and the “Facebook” use causes scale’s “narcissism” subdimensional and a positive meaningful relationship between the “personal status” subdimensional of the “Facebook” use causes scale’s “narcissism” and the “Facebook” use causes scale’s “personal status” subdimensional has been identified. There is a negative meaningful relationship between the narcissism level of students and the concerned linking level and a negative meaningful relationship between the narcissism level and the avoided linking level. Students’ connectivity styles, the reasons for the use of "Facebook" and the relationship between narcissism differ from gender to gender, have been tested by the MANOVA analysis. According to the findings of ANOVA to determine which groups are different, the concerned linking score does not make a significant difference according to the gender variable; the avoidable linking score makes a significant difference according to the gender variable. The average number of women participants is higher than the average of men. Narcissism score shows a significant difference according to the gender variable. The narcissism rate of male participants is higher than the female participants.

Abstract:

The primary goal of this study is to examine the relationship between narcissism levels and Facebook usage and attachment styles of university students. To fulfill these aims, 346 students who are studying at Ondokuz Mayıs University participated in the study, 225 %65 of the participants were female, and 121 %35 were male. The mean age of the participants was 20.68 sd= 1.838 . ‘The Personal Information Form’ which includes participants’ personal information, ‘Narcissistic Personality Inventory’ which was used to measure narcissism level of participants, ‘Experiences in Close Relationships Inventory-II’ which was used to measure attachment styles were delivered to the participants. In addition to these, a scale was developed in order to measure “Facebook” usage. The analysis of the obtained data was performed by SPSS 22. For the purpose of the study, Pearson moment coefficients and multivariate analysis of variance MANOVA were used. According to the results of the study, a positive correlation was found between students’ narcissism levels and one of the subscales of “Facebook” Usage Scale which is about narcissism, and also it was found that there is a positive correlation between narcissism and one of the subscales of “Facebook” Usage Scale which is personal status subscale. It was found that there is a negative correlation between the level of narcissism and the level of anxious attachment of students, and negative correlation was found between the level of narcissism and level of avoidant attachment of students
