Abstract:

This study, according to their mothers’ opinions, aims to identify the problems of children with ADHD in schools. A sub-objective of the research is also to study the views of mothers with children with ADHD on the difficulties they live at home. In the research designed model of quality, the status design was used. The work group of the study, created by the purposes of sampling methods, is formed by the mothers who voluntarily participate in the research of children with ADHD, followed by the Children and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinic of a state hospital. In the study with 11 participants, a semi-configured interview form developed by researchers was used. The data was collected using a semi-configured conversation technique and was recorded in writing in face-to-face conversations. The data collected in November-December 2017 was evaluated through content analysis and categories were created according to the participants' answers. The study found that mothers were forced to provide the support their children need in their educational process alone, and that they did not see sufficient support from school staff and other family members. In general, because our country’s educational system ignores the individual characteristics of their children, they pointed out that the problems are more intense. They said that the support provided by the school guidance services that they believe they need to get the most support shows no sufficient and consistent characteristics.
