Abstract:

Siringomyeli is a chronic, degenerative, progressive disease of the spinal cord, characterized by longutidinal cavitations in the cervicotorasic cord center. Symptoms such as muscle atrophy, weakness, imbalance, surface and deep sensory disorders may be observed, and neuropathic arthropathy may develop in patients in advanced periods( 1,2). In this case presentation, a male patient followed by the diagnosis of siringomyeli is presented with neuropathic arthropathy detected in the left rectum. The 64-year-old male patient, who has been followed by the diagnosis of siringomyeli since 2008, has been applied to the physical medicine and rehabilitation clinic for two and a half months with complaints of swelling in the left rectum and electricity sensation spread to the left coca. The physical examination and radiological evaluation resulted in a physical therapy program aimed at preserving the openness of joint movement to the patient diagnosed with neuropathic arthropathy. We wanted to present this case because of the rare occurrence of neuropathic arthropathy in the joint and because it occurs in patients especially with painless swelling, it causes the problem present in the joint to be ignored. In this case presentation, neuropathic arthropathy was detected in the left edge of a male patient followed by syringomyelia diagnosis. This 64-year-old male patient followed up with syringomyelia diagnosis since 2008, he applied Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Polyclinic with complaints of swelling in the left elbow and sensation of electric discharge spreading to the left arm. As a result of the physical examination and radiological evaluations, the physical therapy program was applied to protect the joint range of motion in the patient detected neuropathic arthropathy. We wanted to present this case since,neuropathic arthropaty in the elbow joint is rarely encountered and the problem that is present in the joint is ignored because it occurs with painless swelling.
