Bu çalışmanın amacı, bir modelleme etkinliğinin sınıf içi ve sınıf dışı uygulama sürecini açıklamak ve bu uygulamalar arasındaki benzerlikleri, farkları ve sınırlılıkları ortaya koymaktır. Nitel çoklu durum çalışmasında modelleme etkinliğinin sınıf içi ve sınıf dışı uygulaması olmak üzere iki farklı durum ele alınmıştır. Çalışmanın verileri sınıf içi etkinlik uygulamasında öğrencilerin çözüm kâğıtları ve etkinlik uygulaması sonrasında yazdıkları yansıtıcı günlükler ile sınıf dışı etkinliğe katılan öğrencilerin çözüm kağıtları, çözüm sürecindeki ses kayıtları ve uygulama sonrası yapılan görüşmeden elde edilmiştir. Araştırmacı tarafından her iki uygulamada da alan notları tutulmuştur. Çözüm kağıtları sınıf içi ve sınıf dışı ayrı ayrı olmak üzere modelleme süreci bağlamında analiz edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin yansıtıcı günlükleri içerik analizi ile kodlanırken sınıf dışı uygulamada gerçekleştirilen görüşme betimsel analiz yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Sınıf içi uygulamada öğrenciler model oluşturmadan problemi çözme eğiliminde olmuşlar, doğrulamayı tam anlamıyla gerçekleştirememişlerdir. Sınıf dışı uygulamada öğrenciler daha gerçekçi varsayımlarda bulunmuşlar ve daha kompleks modeller kurmuşlardır. Modelleme etkinliklerinin sınıf içi ve sınıf dışı uygulamalarının bütünleştirilmesi önerilmektedir.
The objective of this study is to explain the process of the application of a modeling activity in class and out of class and to reveal the similarities, differences and limitations between these applications. In the quality multi-situation study, two different situations have been addressed, the application of the modeling activity in class and out of class. The data of the study is obtained from the solutions papers of the students in the classroom event application and the reflective diaries they write after the event application and the solutions papers of the students who participate in the non-class event, the audio recordings in the solution process and the post-application interviews. The researchers have recorded the field notes in both applications. Solution papers have been analyzed in the context of the modeling process, both in class and out of class separately. The student’s reflective logs are coded with content analysis while the interviews conducted in the non-class application are analyzed with the visual analysis method. In classroom practice, students tended to solve problems without creating a model, they were not able to complete the verification. In the non-class practice, students found more realistic assumptions and created more complex models. It is recommended that modeling activities be integrated with class-in-class and non-class applications.

In the qualitative multi-case study, two different situations, namely in-class and out-of-class application of modeling activity, were discussed. The data of the study were obtained from the solution papers of the students in the in-class activity application, the reflective diaries written after the activity application, the solution papers of the students participating in the out-of-class activity, the voice recordings during the solution process and the post-application interview. The field notes were kept in both applications by the researcher. The solution papers were analyzed in the context of the modeling process. While the reflective diaries of the students were coded with content analysis, the interview conducted in the out-of-class application was analyzed with the descriptive analysis. The in-class application, the students tended to solve the problem without creating a model and could not fully verify. In the out-of-class application, the students made more realistic assumptions and established more complex models. It is recommended to integrate the in-class and out-of-class applications of modeling activities.
