Abstract:

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to provide detailed data about the views and experiences of international students who are trained in the nursing bachelor's program on bachelor's education. Tools and Methods: The phenomonological pattern has been used in the study conducted by the Qualitative Research Method. The study group has been formed by all international students studying at the Mediterranean University Faculty of Nursing. One of these students is (1) first class, three (3) second class and two (2) third class students. Three of the students came from (3) African countries, one (1) Greece, one (1) Russia, the other (1) Albania. The data is collected through individual and focused group conversations, analyzed by the content analysis method. Results: Themes created by coding by researchers; how they define being a nursing student, how they define being a nursing student, the positive and negative experiences they experience in the nursing program, how being an international student affects academic success, how to interact with Turkish students, how to eliminate the negative aspects they experience as a nursing student. In both individual and focused group conversations, they have defined becoming an international student in Turkey as a difficult process due to the language obstacle of all students. Students’ positive experiences in the study are determined as the support of their managers, clinical experiences, support of friends and the good education. Negative experiences have been identified as economic problems, communication problems, and theoretical courses are difficult. The result: Students have been found to have problems with adjustment in nursing education, especially due to language disorder, but they have fewer difficulties due to their classmates, teachers and managerial support.
