Abstract:

The main purpose of the study is 4-6th grade students in the 2022/2023 academic year. The aim of this study is to examine the use of biography in Turkish textbooks. In the research, the document review method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. Primary Education Turkish 4-6, prepared by the Ministry of National Education (MEB) as a document in the research. class textbooks were used. The data obtained as a result of the research were analyzed by subjecting content analysis. According to the results of the research, it was seen that the biographies of a total of 42 people were included in the 4th grade textbook, 7 in the 5th grade textbook, 21 in the 6th grade textbook, and 14 in the 6th grade textbook. Biography is used more in some units and less in some units. On the other hand, it was determined that no biography was used in some units. It has been determined that all of the biographies used in the 4th grade textbook are male, 17 of the 21 people in the 5th grade textbook are male, 4 of them are female, and in the 6th grade textbook, 13 of the people whose biographies are used are male and 1 of them is female. In addition, it was seen that 36 of the 42 people whose biographies were used were domestic and 6 were foreigners. It was seen that male and local people were included in the biographies used in the study. According to the results of the research, suitable people were searched in all units in the Turkish textbook, and suggestions were made to make an equal distribution in the use of biographies and to give more space to the biographies of women and foreigners.
