Abstract:

The history of the "star textualization" known by the Circles that tissue in the shells of the Mersin area is based on many years ago. As in all the crafts, the continuity of the "star texture" touched in the Mersin Eye Fountain has not been guaranteed, this technique is faced with the danger of disappearance. The study aimed at studying the historical documentation and the examples of the present day, the local documentation was registered, promoted and awarded to the Turkish culture. In the area, the "star" is called, the vertical thesgae group is used. The use of hair, wheat, orlon wheat is made for daily use, such as the flat tissue spread, prayer (seccâde), pocket, beef, spread and corner scratch, called "cutting, scratch". This research has studied twenty different products from the touched flat tissue spreads using wheat, clay and straight tissue techniques. The study includes information about the product’s touch date, the touch purpose, the touch person, the sizes, the types of wire used, the technical, pattern, composition and motivation characteristics of the documents with its colors. The data is provided by face-to-face contact method from the source persons.

Istar weaving whose history is based on many years ago, is also known as floor cover weaving by Yürüks weaving in the plateaus of Mersin and have been woven for many years. As in all handcrafts, ıstar weaving woven in Gözne plateau located in Mersin cannot be maintained and has been in danger of extinction. The aim of this study is to create a permanent source about local weaving via examining both ıstar weaving woven in Gözne plateau located in Mersin and examples survived until today. Winding type looms which are in the group of perpendicular looms are used in the region. Productions such as prayer rug (scatter), sack, saddlebag, ground cloth and corner rug were made by using hair, wool and orlon yarns kıllama, tırlık for daily use. With this research, twenty different products woven using ‘zili’, ‘cicim’ and plain weaving techniques were examined. In the research, the production date of weaving, purpose of weaving, weaver, dimensions, types of yarn used, colors as well as technical, pattern, composition and motif characteristics of weavings are included. The data were obtained from the source persons by face to face interview technique.
