Dilek Aydın Özet Yaşam beklentisinin giderek arttığı günümüzde, önemli sorunlardan biri yaşanacak sağlıklı yılların süresinin ve kalitesinin nasıl arttırılabileceğidir. Kötü sağlığın davranışsal belirleyicileri ile ilgili araştırmaların çoğu sigara kullanımı, kötü beslenme, fiziksel inaktivite, ve alkol kullanımı üzerinde yoğunlaşmıştır ki, dünya sağlık teşkilatı bu nedenlere bağlı ölümlerin global kronik hastalık yükünün üçte birinden sorumlu olduğunu bildirmektedir. Bu yazıda başarılı yaşlanma için ne tür yaşam alışkanlıklarının özendirilmesi gerektiğine birey ve toplum düzeyinde güncel bilgiler ışığında cevap vermeye çalışılacak; sağlık üzerinde etkileri nispeten iyi bilinen sigara kullanımı, fiziksel inaktivite, alkol kullanımı gibi ögelerin yanı sıra, potansiyel etkileri daha az bilinen güneş maruziyeti, beslenme özellikleri gibi yaşam biçimi ögeleri hakkında bilgiler gözden geçirilecektir. Research on extrinsic determinants of ill health has focused mainly on behavioral risk factors, including tobacco use, poor diet, physical inactivity, and alcohol misuse, which the World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated to account for over one third of the global chronic disease burden. In this review we aim to reveal the current knowledge base on lifestyle factors for a healthy aging. We not only mention the facts on well-known lifestyle factors such as smoking, physical inactivity and alcohol use but also try to review the less-well known aspects of lifestyle factors such as nutrition and sun-exposure. Wish Clear Summary In today, when life expectancy is increasing, one of the major issues is how to improve the duration and quality of healthy years to experience. Most of the research on the behavioral determinants of poor health focused on smoking, poor nutrition, physical inactivity, and alcohol use, which the World Health Organization reports that deaths due to these causes are responsible for one-third of the global burden of chronic disease. This article will try to respond in the light of the current information on what kind of living habits should be encouraged for successful aging at the individual and community level; the effects on health will be reviewed with information on the facts such as relatively well-known smoking, physical inactivity, alcohol use, as well as the potential effects of less-known exposure to the sun, nutritional characteristics and lifestyle.
