Batılılaşmaya tarihsel bir süreç içinde bakıldığında kültürel alanlara pozitivist bilimsel bilgi birikimini yansıttığı görülür. Batılılaşmanın özünde yer alan pozitivist düşünce, Osmanlı’nın son ve Cumhuriyet’in ilk dönemlerinde nesnel olarak uygulamaya konmuştur. Türkiye’de Batılılaşama, bilimsellik paradigmasından yeni toplumsal bir kültür oluşturma hedefi içinde gerçekleştirilmek istenmiştir. Başlangıçta bir medeniyet projesinin nesnel bir sunumu olan Batılılaşma ve bunun temelinde yer alan pozitivizm, siyasal ve kültürel sistem haline getirilmiştir. Akıl ve bilimi ön plana çıkaran Cumhuriyet döneminin yöneticileri, pozitivist bir yaklaşımla kültürel reformları radikal olarak uygulamaya çalışmıştır. Bu durum pozitivist düşüncenin toplum üzerinde kültürel olarak hükümranlık kurma çabasın göstermektedir. Buna karşın Nursi, çağa uygun bir anlayış ve metotla farklı bir bakış açısı getirerek kültürel Batılılaşmayı eleştirmektedir. Bu çalışmada, Nursi’nin yeni kavrayış şekli ile İslam terminolojisini modern söylemler üzerinden bağdaştırarak pozitivist düşünce karşısında yeni bir bilimsellik anlayışı üretmesi üzerinde durulmuştur. Nursi’nin pozitivist akla dayalı zihniyetin reddi ile inancı bilimsellikle yorumlaması ele alınarak, kültürel reformların dayanağı olan pozitivizm ve Batı medeniyetine yönelik eleştirilerine yer verilmiştir.
When we look at Westernization in a historic process, it seems that it reflects the accumulation of scientific knowledge positivist in cultural fields. The positive thought in the essence of westernization has been objectively applied in the last and early periods of the Ottoman Republic. In Turkey, Westernization is intended to be achieved in the aim of creating a new social culture from the scientific paradigm. Initially, the Westernization, which is an objective presentation of a civilization project, and the positivism that is based on it, has become a political and cultural system. The governors of the Republic, which put mind and science in the forefront, tried to implement cultural reforms in a radical way with a positive approach. This situation demonstrates the effort of the positivist thought to establish cultural domination over society. Nevertheless, Nursi criticizes cultural westernization by bringing a different perspective with an age-friendly understanding and method. In this study, the focus was on Nursi’s new form of understanding and the Islamic terminology by modern speeches, producing a new scientific perception against positivist thought. Nursi's rejection of the positivist mind-based mind and the scientific interpretation of the belief have been addressed, and his criticism of positivism and Western civilization, which is the basis of cultural reforms, has been placed.
Looking at Westernization in a historical process, it is seen that it reflects positivist scientific knowledge in cultural fields. The positivist thought, which is at the core of Westernization, was objectively applied during the last and the first periods of the Ottoman Empire. Westernization in Turkey, the paradigm of science has been aimed at creating a new social culture. In the beginning, Westernization, an objective presentation of a civilization project, and positivism, which is based on it, have been transformed into a political and cultural system. The managers of the Republican period, who put the mind and science to the fore, tried to radically apply cultural reforms with a positivist approach. This situation shows that positivist thought is trying to establish a cultural rule over society. On the other hand, Nursi criticizes cultural Westernization by introducing a different perspective with a contemporary approach and method. In this study, Nursi’s new way of understanding and reconciling Islam terminology through modern discourse focused on producing a new understanding of science in the face of positivist thought. Nursi’s critique of positivism and Western civilization, which is the basis of cultural reforms, is taken into consideration the rejection of positivist mindset and the interpretation of faith in science.
