Araştırma konumuz olan Tuz Gölü tuzlaları, Tuz Gölü kıyılarındadır. Bu göl ise, hatırlanacağı üzere, İç Anadolu Bölgesi'nin Konya Bölümünde, Ankara, Konya ve Aksaray illeri sınırları içerisinde yer alır. Kuzeybatı-güneydoğu yönünde uzanış gösteren kapalı bir havzadır. Yaklaşık 1660 km2lik bir alan kaplayan göl, ülkemizin tuz elde edilen en önemli gölüdür. Dünyanın, Lût Gölü'nden sonra ikinci tuzlu gölü olarak kabul edilir(% o329). Gölde Yavşan, Kaldırım ve Kayacık olmak üzere üç tuz işletmesi bulunmaktadır. Tuz Gölü'nden 1997 yılı itibariyle 1 707 782 ton tuz elde edilmiş olup, Türkiye tuz üretiminin (2 329 399 ton) % 73.3'ünü vermiştir.
