Tarihi özelliklere sahip yerleşim alanları, geçmiş ile günümüz arasındaki bağın devam ettirilmesi bakımından önem taşımaktadır. Günümüzde sürekli değişim içerisinde olan kentler, tarihi dokusundan uzaklaşmakta ve kent kimliğini yansıtan bileşenler kentlinin zihninden silinmeye başlamaktadır. Kentlerin kimliğini yansıtması, o kentin tarihi ve kültürel dokusunun korunmasına ve sürdürülebilirliğine bağlıdır. Kente kimlik kazandıran imgeler kentte yaşayanların hafızasında kente ilişkin değerlerin canlı kalmasını sağlamaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Çankırı Kentsel Sit Alanı içinde kent imgesini oluşturan mekânların ortaya çıkarılması ve kent kimliğine katkı sağlayacak önerilerin geliştirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma alanı olarak seçilen Çankırı Kentsel Sit Alanı’nda Osmanlı Dönemi'nden günümüze kadar gelmiş ve tarihi dokuyu yansıtan kentsel elemanlar; arazi çalışması, görsel ve mekânsal analizlerle birlikte değerlendirilerek kent imgeleri haritaları oluşturulmuştur. Sonuçta tüm veriler birleştirilmiş, kentte yapılacak tasarım ve planlama çalışmalarına fikir oluşturabilecek imge haritası elde edilmiş ve öneriler getirilmiştir. Çalışmada Çankırı’nın kent kimliğini geliştirmek ve kent imgelerini yaşatmak bakımından verilen mekânsal önerilerin de kentin turizm potansiyeline katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.

Settlement areas with historical characteristics are important in terms of keeping the link between the past and present. Nowadays cities that are in constant change are moving away from their historical texture and the components reflecting the urban identity are beginning to be erased from the minds of the citizens. The reflection of identity of the cities depends on protection and sustainability of the historical and cultural texture of that city. Urban images that give identity to the city provide that the values of the city remain alive in the memory of the people living in the city. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the spaces that form the image of the city in the Çankırı Urban Site and to develop suggestions for the development of urban identity. In the Çankırı Urban Site, which was chosen as the study area, urban elements that have come from the Ottoman Period and reflect the historical texture were evaluated together with field work, visual and spatial analyzes, and city image maps were created. As a result, all the data is combined, an image map is obtained that could create an idea for the design and planning studies to be carried out in the city and suggestions were made. It is thought that the spatial suggestions given in terms of improving the urban identity of Çankırı and keeping the city images alive will also contribute to the tourism potential of the city.
