Developing satellite technologies and remote sensing techniques are widely used in agricultural applications. Because the images acquired by the remote sensing satellites have high spatial, radiometric and spectral resolutions, they are used for observing agricultural areas and determining land use conditions. Land use and land cover data about the type can be acquired by classification of satellite images. A 5-band RapidEye satellite image has been used in this study to determine cotton plant, which is strategically essential for our country, by using satellite imagery. Agricultura l lands on the north of Menemen District of İzmir was selected as the study area. Besides this, land survey was carried out in the study area simultaneously on the date of image acquisition. Site samples were determined in the study area and their coordinates were identified by using GPS. Thus, the land survey for training and test data has been completed. The obtained satellite image has been classified by using training data through object-based method. Reliability of the resulting image has been tested by performing an accuracy analysis by using the test data. The overall accuracy for the cotton plant was calculated as 98.19%
