Bu makalede mimar Turgut Cansever’in, tarih ve mimarlık algısının şekillenmesinde devraldığı siyasi ve sosyo-kültürel koşulların neler olduğu, idealize edilmiş bir “biz” tanımlamak üzere “öteki”ni hangi tarihyazımsal stratejilerle nasıl icat ve inşa ettiği, bireysel ve kolektif anlamda geliştirdiği, önerdiği “özcü” kimliğin bileşenlerinin nelerden oluştuğu sorularına cevap aranmaktadır. Burada Cansever’in bilinçaltında ötekine karşı duyduğu hayranlığı bir mahcubiyet olarak yaşadığı, onu kendi kültürü olarak tanımladığı değerlerle ilişkilendirmeden benimseyemediği, “öteki”ne ait olanı dönüştüremediği yerde ise, arzu nesnesini tahrip etme eğilimi geliştirdiği savlanmaktadır. Yakın okuma aracığıyla gerçekleştirilen bu eleştirel söylem analizinin kuramsal çerçevesini, Zygmunt Bauman’ın “Biz ve Onlar”, Herold Bloom’un “etkilenme kaygısı”, Cemal Kafadar’ın “penetre edilme korkusu” ve Hutchinson’un “Ahlaki müceddid”, “moral innovator” kavramları oluşturmaktadır.
