Profile of the body composition of children and adolescents of state school Francisco Antonio de Brito in Itororó - Bahia

The populations nutritional assessment, especially the implementation of nutritional surveys in school, is a tool of extreme importance for understanding the dynamics of nutrition of children and adolescents. Objective: To identify the profile of body composition in overweight and obesity in children and adolescents from the State School Francisco Antonio de Brito in Itororó city of Bahia. Materials and Methods: We studied 123 children and adolescents between ten and seventeen years old, enrolled in the State School Francisco Antonio de Brito in Itororó city Bahia. Body mass index (BMI) was calculated from information provided to the individual's height and weight and waist / hip ratio (WHR) through measurements of waist and hip circumferences. Results: The study found that the prevalence of overweight boys 12.24% and girls 9.45%. For the obese boys 0% and girls 14.86%. For the WHR values female (41.8%) and males (4.0%). Discussion: According the results, it was found that the prevalence of overweight in male were higher and in the case of obesity the girls surpassed. In respect of the waist / hip ratio (WHR), the females presented data well above the male. Depend on the location of the body that fat is distributed alter the risk associated with excess fat. Conclusion: The studies showed that a large number of children and adolescents in the school's study showed the high BMI and WHR.
