The study of economic literature in relation to stock management shows that stocastic and deterministic stock models are developed. Among these, deterministic models are models with the lowest level of mathematical complexity. The classic economic order quantity model and the classic economic production quantity models are commonly seen examples of deterministic models. Though these models are simple and useful, they are sometimes insufficient in responding to the problems that arise in real life. Therefore, new models are developed by adding additional assumptions to the assumptions included in the model or by relieving existing assumptions. These models deal with situations such as the decomposition of products over time, the existence of multiple products, the existence of different demand functions, quantity discounts, the variation of production rate, the value of time of money, the inflation and the learning effect. In this study, a comprehensive summer scan is carried out for these stock control models developed under different circumstances.
The economic literature regarding inventory management modeling focuses on the development of stochastic and deterministic inventory control models. Among these models, deterministic static models are the ones that have lowest level of mathematical complexity. Classical economic order quantity and economic production quantity models are the most common examples of deterministic static modeling. Although these models are simple and practical, sometimes they are regarded insufficient to respond problems faced in real life. For this reason, to be able to answer real life problems, new models are produced by adding new assumptions to the model or relaxing existing assumptions of the model. In these models, deterioration of products, multiple products, different demand functions, quantity reductions, variable production rate, time value of money, inflation and learning effect are discussed. In this study, a comprehensive literature review is conducted for these stock control models developed under different situations.
