Abstract:

Societies may willingly submit to surveillance in suddenly occurring shocking times, such as pandemics, terrorism, and natural disasters, which threaten their lives and security and when fears about their freedom and even lives arise. Considering the pandemic process, concerns about total control to the extent of posing punishment have intensified the idea that monitoring as we currently are acquainted with it, especially from dystopias, will become routine, and fear of establishing a society based on permanent surveillance. Digital surveillance technologies, which are employed to strive and control the pandemic process that has globally influenced every aspect of daily life, have a broad range of impacts on tracking the geographical movements and whereabouts of people based on their location whenever and every single hour they get connected to the internet and to the extent they permitted. Based on the premise that users are potentially monitorable for antivirus and security reasons in addition to political and commercial motives, this study aimed to discuss the surveillance issues with a critical approach originating from the data surveillance activities that people are more exposed to in their daily life in post-Covid-19 pandemic period and that experience through various digital applications in our country.
