Abstract:

Ibn Faris is one of the most famous scholars of the Arabic language and one of the most prominent writers of Arabic dictionaries, as he is one of the specialists in the semantics of words and their connotations. Ibn Faris’s book “Futyaa Faqih al-Arab” consists of doctrinal questions (Fatwas). These Fatwas includes homonymous words. The clue to answering these questions is through knowing the meanings of these words. The author’s goal is to show the importance of The Arabic language and obliging the student of Sharia to Master the language. This research focuses on the lexical uniqueness of Ibn Faris, which has two types: First, the unique meanings that he used in his book “Futyaa Fakih Al-Arab”, while these meanings were not mentioned in any other Arabic dictionaries even in his own dictionaries, and we do not know exactly from where he got these meanings. Second, the meanings mentioned in “Futyaa Fakih Al-Arab”, and Arabic dictionaries, but were not mentioned in his own dictionaries which is considered a weak point in his dictionaries; especially he stated that he only lists the correct and authentic Arabic words, so it is implied that these meanings are not authentic, then he should not have used them in his book. This is what this research tries to study.
