Abstract:

This article aims to understand the experiences of homework and care workers and women employers living in Hong Kong and discuss how these experiences differ in class, ethnicity and immigration policies. For this purpose, a qualitative research was carried out from the epistemology of the feminist position point. The study conducted thorough conversations with eight Philippine workers and eight female employers, and fourth group conversations were held with the participation of male women from both groups. According to the findings of the study, the Philippines homework and care workers and women employers have defined "good maternity" differently in the framework of their class positions, ethnic origins and immigration habits. The philippine assistants have lived their maternity experiences apart from their children, transforming Hong Kong’s immigration policies and relationships with their employers, and the maternity experiences of women employers in Hong Kong have been observed by the practices of raising children, the importance given to education and the support they receive from the immigrant assistants.
