Objective: Determination of seroprevalence of vaccinepreventable diseases is great of value to assess immunization programmes. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of age-specific measles, mumps and rubella MMR in adolescent populatıon of Sivas as well as the factors affecting the seroprevalence. Methods: This cross-sectional population-based study was carried out on for hundred and one school children aged between 9-16 years between February 2006 and February 2007. There were 205 51.1 % boys and 196 48.4 % girls. For each participant, a questıonnaire was completed and measles, mumps, rubella-spesific IgG antibodies were screened quantitatively by Enzyme-Lınked Immunosorbent Assay ELISA . Results: The seroprevalence of measles, mumps and rubella in the 9-16 year-old children, was found to be 82.5 %, 72.5 % and 85.5 %, respectively. Seropositivity levels were not influenced by age, sex, paternal educatıon levels, socioeconomic level, number of siblings and previous history of attendance to kindergarten. Conclusion: This seroprevalence study emphasizes the necessity of improving MMR vaccination strategies.
