Çok seslilik kuramı ilk olarak edebiyat alanında kendini göstermiş son yirmi yıldır ise dilbilimsel çalışmaların odak noktası haline gelmiştir. İlk olarak Rus kuramcı Mikhail Bahtin tarafından kullanılan bu kurama göre metinler farklı fikirlerin ve bakış açılarının kesişme noktası olarak yazarınkinden farklı sesler içermektedir. Bahtin özellikle Dostoyevski’nin romanlarını çok seslilik bakımından çok zengin olarak nitelendirmekte ve romanlarındaki kahramanların her birinin farklı bir sesi temsil ettiğini savunmaktadır. Böylece metinde bir çok seslilik ortamı doğar. Dilbilimde çok seslilik kuramı ise her sözcenin farklı bakış açılarına sahip birden fazla sesi içermesi düşüncesi üzerine kuruludur. Çok sesliliği ilk kez dilbilimsel bir kavram olarak ele alan Fransız dilbilimci Oswald Ducrot dilbilimsel çok sesliliğin sınırlarını çizmemiş, tanımını kesin ve açık olarak yapmamış ve bu alanda bazı kuramsal boşluklar bırakmıştır. Henning Nølke önderliğinde dilbilimsel çok seslilikte İskandinav akımını temsil eden bir grup dilbilimci bu boşlukları tamamlamayı ve bu kuramı geliştirmeyi amaçlamıştır. Bu çalışmada çok seslilik kuramının edebiyatta ortaya çıkışı ve dilbilime yansıması ele alındıktan sonra çok sesliliği ilk kez dilbilimsel bir kavram olarak ele alan Fransız dilbilimci Oswald Ducrot’un çok seslilik anlayışı ortaya konulmuş ve son olarak dilbilimsel çok seslilik kuramını geliştirmeyi amaçlayan İskandinav dilbilimcilerden oluşan bir topluluk olan ScaPoLine’nin dilbilimsel çok seslilik kuramına kattıkları karşılaştırmalı bir şekilde ele alınmıştır.
The theory of polyphony first appeared in the field of literature and has become the focus of linguistic studies in the last twenty years. According to this theory, first used by Russian theorist Mikhail Bakhtin, texts contain voices different from those of the author as the intersection of different ideas and perspectives. Bakhtin especially describes Dostoyevsky's novels as very rich in terms of polyphony and argues that each of the heroes in his novels represents a different voice. Thus, a polyphonic environment is born in the text. The theory of polyphony in linguistics is based on the idea that each utterance contains more than one voice with different perspectives. French linguist Oswald Ducrot, who first discussed polyphony as a linguistic concept, did not draw the boundaries of linguistic polyphony, did not define it precisely and clearly, and left some theoretical gaps in this field. A group of linguists representing the Scandinavian movement in linguistic polyphony, led by Henning Nølke, aimed to fill these gaps and develop this theory. In this study, after the emergence of the theory of polyphony in literature and its reflection on linguistics are discussed, the understanding of polyphony of the French linguist Oswald Ducrot, who first discussed polyphony as a linguistic concept, is presented and finally, the concept of polyphony, which is a community of Scandinavian linguists aiming to develop the theory of linguistic polyphony, is presented. The contributions of ScaPoLine to linguistic polyphony theory are discussed in a comparative way.
