Bu yıl, 80. yıldönümü kutladığımız Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin kuruluşuna giden yolun başlangıcında milletimizin “kayıtsız şartsız, bağımsız yeni bir Türk Devleti” kurmak üzere “ya istiklâl ya ölüm” ilkesi ile başlattığı Milli Mücadele ve Kurtuluş Savaşımız yer almaktadır. Bu süreç içinde Erzurum ve Sivas Kongrelerini takiben 23 Nisan 1920’de, millî iradeye dayanan Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi açılmış ve bütün dünyaya karşı, yayınladığı beyanname ile “egemenliğin kayıtsız şartsız Türk milletine ait olduğunu” ve “Büyük Millet Meclisi’nin üzerinde hiçbir makam bulunmadığını” ilân etmişti. Gerçi bu meclis ve bu meclisin içinden çıkan “Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi Hükümeti”, yapısı ve işleyişi yönünden, aslında ismi konmamış bir cumhuriyet yönetiminden farksızdı. Ama Millî Mücadele’nin ve Kurtuluş Savaşı’nın zaferle bitişini ve Lozan Antlaşması’yla bağımsızlığımızın bütün devletlerce onayını takiben, artık devlet yönetiminin daha açık biçimde isim alması gerekiyordu. İşte 29 Ekim 1923 günü yapılan Anayasa değişikliği ile bu husus da yerine getirildi ve bu yıl 80. yıldönümünü kutladığımız Cumhuriyet ilân edildi.
