Modern zamanların problemi olan stres, modern toplum olmanın, çok hızlı ve hareketli yaşamanın sonucu olarak yaşantımızın doğal bir parçası haline gelmiştir. İçinde bulunduğumuz yüzyılda insanlar hangi işi yaparlarsa yapsınlar yaşamlarının büyük bir bölümünü kendi yeteneklerini ve sınırlarını zorlayarak sürdürmektedirler. Kişi ister bir kamu ya da özel kesim örgütünün üyesi olarak yaşamını kazansın, isterse bir örgüte doğrudan doğruya bağımlı olmaksızın hizmet sunsun, stres kavramıyla tanışması kaçınılmaz olmaktadır.
İnsanın içinde bulunduğu çelişkiler ve çatışmaların çoğu insanın var oluşunun değil, tarihsel koşulların ve bu koşulların gerektirdiği toplumsal düzenden, yanlış eğitim uygulamalarından kaynaklanmaktadır. İnsanların içinden çıkılmazmış gibi görünen karmaşık sorunları yine insanların kendi eseridir ve bu sorunları da çözmek yine kendi elindedir. Ancak sorunların ortaya çıkışı nasıl uzun zaman aldıysa çözümleri de uzun zaman alacaktır. Burada umutsuzluğa kapılmamak gerekir. Çünkü insanlar, kendi sorunlarına çözüm bulacak yetenektedirler.
