Abstract:

Low birth weight and/or prematurity are a risk factor in terms of mortality and morbidity for a complete recovery surgery in many infarctional heart diseases. In this study we wanted to present the early period results of large arterial transposition babies we applied arterial switch surgery under 2500 grams. In our clinic, 85 patients have been applied arterial switch procedure in the last 4 years. 24 of these patients were under 2500 grams and the data was examined retrospectively. The average age and body weight of the operated patients were recorded at 9.3 July4 days and 2282 July141 grams respectively. In twenty cases, the isolated arterial switch procedure, in addition to 3 patients, the closure of VSD and in one case, in addition to the rebuilding of the back was applied. There was only one coronary osteoarthritis in two cases. Early surgical mortality was not observed. In all cases, the sternum was left open at the output of the surgery and the postoperative was closed on average 3 days (1-14 days). Nine patients (37%) needed inotropic after surgery. The average entubation time was 12.9+-21.9 days. Two incidents (8.3%) were lost in intensive care monitoring. The average tracking time after the operation was 17+-26.8 months, no late mortality was observed. All events are followed as NYHA Class 1. The risk of low birth weight surgery increases in babies with large arterial transposition, which are a frequently experienced cyanetic disease in the newborn period. We also consider that in our limited number of cases experience, these patients weighing 2000-2500 grams can be taken safely for arterial switch surgery.
