Abstract:

In this study, it is aimed to examine the relationship between the leadership styles and communication skills of the school principals according to the perceptions of teachers in public schools. The research has been patterned in the relational survey model. The sample of the study consists of 447 teachers working in Kahramanmaraş central districts in the 2021-2022 academic year, determined by simple random sampling method. Research data were collected through the "Leadership Styles Scale" developed by Akan, Yildirim and Yalcin (2014) and the "Communication Skills Scale" developed by Simsek (2003). Arithmetic mean, standard deviation, Pearson Moments Multiplication Correlation Coefficient analysis and Multiple Regression Analysis methods were used when analyzing the data. As a result of the research, it was determined that the transformational leadership behaviors of the school principals were at a high level, the transactional leadership behaviors were moderate and the laissez faire leadership behaviors were low. In addition, according to teacher perceptions, the communication skills of the school managers are also detected at high levels. It is another result of the research that there is a positively strong relationship between the transformative leadership styles and communication skills of school principals. It has been observed that the transformational leadership style significantly and positively exhausts communication skills, but the transactional leadership style and laissez faire leadership style variables significantly procedural communication skills. In this direction, activities can be planned to raise awareness of education stakeholders for the continuity of this situation and that there is a positive perception of leadership styles and communication skills.
