Parallel to the rapid growth of the world’s population, the current energy resources are rapidly decreasing. However, the intense use of renewable energy sources to meet increasing energy demand has led to increased carbon dioxide emissions, sustainable environment and renewable energy concepts. Because the economic importance of these concepts is increasing on a daily basis, the impact on economic growth needs to be more detailed. In this study; the impact of renewable energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions for Turkey on economic growth and the relationship between them, using the 1998-2015 annual data, was studied by the Johansen integration test and the Granger causality test. The results of empirical analyses have found that the variables have been harmonised over the long term and that a unit increase in carbon dioxide emissions in Turkey in the aforementioned years has increased economic growth by about 93% and a unit increase in renewable energy consumption has increased economic growth by about 19.9%. According to the Granger causality test, when dealing with renewable energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions together, there was a one-way causal relationship towards economic growth.
