Immanuel Kant’ın Eğitim Felsefesinde Disiplinin Rolü
2020

ODU Journal of Social Sciences Research
Author:
Abstract:

Immanuel Kant's Role of Discipline in Education Philosophy
2020
Author:
Abstract:

Immanuel Kant establishes the understanding of education on the essence of the realization of man’s “tension” and humanity’s “illumination” state. According to him, man is the only being to be educated because he comes to the world primitively and wildly. In this regard, education for Kant has an important role in the perfection of human nature. For a free and autonomous individual to be able to grow from the indicators of man's adolescence, some basic educational practices consisting of discipline, culturalization, civilization and moralization are needed. Kant points out that a person with a tendency to go from birth to good should be disciplined without getting used to bad habits associated with a tendency to pleasant freedom. Therefore, the discipline, which is critical for a moral education based on the Maximes, is one of the indispensable processes in terms of the achievement of the goal of the free and autonomous human ideal. While lack of knowledge can be corrected in any way at any stage of human life, it is difficult or impossible to correct a number of negative habits that are caused by discipline and become character. That is why Kant describes the ignorant as ignorant, and the undisciplined as wild. The study will try to reveal the place and importance of the concept of discipline, which is considered a preliminary stage of culturalization, civilization and moralization in Kant's educational understanding. This will also contribute – even in part – to the search for answers on how the human ascension to a moral existence will be and where it will begin.

The Role Of Discipline In Immanuel Kant's Education Philosophy

Abstract:

Immanuel Kant builds his reason of education on the basis of the realization of the "adulthood" of human and the "Enlightenment" state of humanity. In his aspect, human being is the only being that needs to be educated because he comes to the world as primitive and wild. In this respect, to Kant, education has a significant function in the perfection of human nature. Some basic educational practices that are consisted of discipline, acculturation, civilization and moralization are required for the free and autonomous individual to grow up, which is one of the indicators of human adulthood. Kant states that a person who has an innate tendency towards goodness should be disciplined before he/she gets used to bad habits related to arbitrary freedom. For this reason, discipline, which is critical for a moral education based on Maxim, is one of the essential processes for the realization of the aim of the free and autonomous human ideal. Because, while the lack of knowledge can be compensated in any period of human life, it is difficult or impossible to correct some negative habits that are caused by lack of discipline and become a character. In the study, the place and importance of the concept of discipline, which is accepted as a pre-stage of acculturation, civilization and moralization, in Kant's reason of education will be tried to be revealed. Through this study, -even partially-, there will also be contributions to the search for the answer to how the human being ascension to a moral being will be and where it will start
