Medeniyet kavramı son dönemlerde temel tartışma alanlarından birisi olarak karşımıza çıkar. Genellikle değişim süreçlerinden geçen toplumlarda bu tartışma konusunun önplana çıktığı görülmektedir. Toplumsal değişme sürecinde kültürlerarası etkileşimin boyutları da bu tartışmalar kapsamındadır. İnsanlık durumunun kültürel ve teknik boyutları çerçevesinde İzzetbegoviç çalışmalarında temelde medeniyet sorunsalı bağlamında çalışmalar ortaya koymuştur. .İnsanın tarihsel serüveni kendini medeniyet kavramı bağlamında iade eder. Bu kendini ifade biçimi tinsel bir tasarım içinde ortya konulur.Burada insanın temel arayış ve gelecek tasavvurları da kendine yer bulur.Medeniyet tartışmaları felsefi ve epistemolojik düzeyde bu bağlamda en geniş anlamda bir varlık tasavvurudur. Varlık tasavvuru mikro düzlemden makro düzleme butün değişkenlere ilişkin bir bütüncül kavrayışın ortaya konularak insan ve toplum hayatının temel sorunlarının anlamlanlandırılmasıdır. Bu yönüyle insan bu temel kavrayışlar neticesinde hayata katılarak kendine bir varlık konumu edinir. Mediniyetin bu bütüncül yönü bir tarihsel ontoloji olarak kavranmasına da imkan verir. İzzetbegoviç İslam ve modernite ilişkisininin ötesinde medeniyet tartışmalarını ele alarak,islam ve batı medeniyetlerinin insanlık için anlamını ortaya koymaya çalışmıştır.
The concept of civilization has recently emerged as one of the main areas of discussion. Generally, it is seen that this discussion topic comes to the fore in the societies that have undergone change processes. The extent of intercultural interaction in the process of social change is also covered by these discussions. Within the framework of the cultural and technical aspects of the human condition, Izetbegoviç, in his work, basically revealed works in the context of the problematic of civilization. The person's historical adventure is returned in the context of the concept of civilization. This form of self-expression is presented in a spiritual design. Here, the basic search and future imaginations of human beings find their place. The concept of being is the understanding of the basic problems of human and social life by introducing a holistic understanding of all variables from micro plane to macro level. In this respect, human beings gain an asset position by joining to life as a result of these basic concepts. This holistic aspect of the media also allows it to be understood as a historical ontology. Izzetbegoviç has discussed the civilization debates beyond the relation of Islam and modernity and tried to reveal the meaning of Islam and western civilizations for humanity.
