Abstract:

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) hold increased importance and sensitivity along with the globalization process and developments in information and communication technology. Today, NGOs stand as establishments providing contributions to the solution of many social issues from a struggle against poverty, prevention of unemployment, and improvement of international relations to fight against environmental problems, protection of human rights, and maintenance of peace together with public and private sectors. Associations, foundations, trade unions, confederations, employment agencies, professional federations, professional organizations, chambers, local unions, and cooperatives are accepted as NGOs across the world and undertake significant functions in many economic, social, and political areas including maintenance of social justice and peace, democratization, lobbying, and raising employment. Such functions of NGOs may differ across countries depending on their economic and social structures. With the functions they undertake in the social policy field, NGOs help to reduce many social problems at points the state cannot reach or provide adequate support for. This study examines and evaluates the postgraduate theses on NGOs prepared within the scope of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations. In this regard, the postgraduate theses prepared within “Labor Economics and Industrial Relations” departments that were obtained from the thesis archive of the Council of Higher Education of the Republic of Turkey (CoHE) were examined through document review. The findings obtained through such review are presented and interpreted in tables of percentage and frequency.
