Prunuslaurocerasus L. (synonym: Cerasuslaurocerasus, Laurocerasus officinalis) known as “cherry laurel”, a plant of the Rosaceae family, are red and purple summer fruits. Laurel cherry trees are generally grown in the Eastern Black Sea Region. The purpose of this study is to introduce the blackberry, a fruit that grows in the Black Sea region, to give information about the nutrient content, and to show its relation with the diseases. Besides its consumption as food, both fruit and seed of cherry laurel have been utilized as traditional remedy in Turkey for the treatment of digestive system complaints, including stomach ulcer, bronchitis (seeds), eczema, hemorrhoids and as diuretic (fruits). In addition, it has been reported that high antioxidant capacity of cherry laurel may be effective in preventing cancer, cardiovascular, Diabetes mellitus, chronic and neurodegenerative diseases. In conclusion, the fruit, seeds and leaves of cherry laurel may be effective in the prevention of diseases and treatment, because it contains the presence of nutrients and components which have positive effects on health. Recent, studies on this subject are increasing but there is not enough proof yet.
