One of the important names of the Turkish novel, Selim İli, in his novel, Death Relationships, highlights cultural corruption, the broken relationship between persons, the broken family ties, and sexual tendencies that are unacceptable in society. It reflects the quest for self by the modern world through the youth; it reflects the independence of family, tradition and society. A group of youths who love their freedoms, love, and friendship relationships with each other are often presented to read in a negative language. From the Roman characters, "Cemal" comes to us as a very unusual person. "Cemal" is also the most tragic character of the novel. The concept of homosexuality, which the modern world offers as a legitimate form of relationship, finds the body in the character of "Cemal". Through the "Cemal", which is constantly brought to the forefront with his homosexual identity, the view of the Turkish society to homosexuality is revealed. In the character in which subconscious impulses are not overwhelmed, the person tries to accept himself to society as he feels. That’s not easy in terms of “Camilla”. Specifically, the translation direction that her boyfriends provide both sexual tendency and survival, is constantly insulted and laughed in the environments where she is not present. Cemal, because he does not see the interest he wants from his friend "Happiness", his life turns into a hole of misfortune. The social life of "Cemal", a tragic character; the subconscious and collective unconscious impulses, in the novel offer a different reading in the character assessment.
