Abstract:

Abstract:

Determining the import of doing sports on the level of aggression and optimism aged 11-13 who do sports or not. On this research, 6th, 7th, 8th grade students aged 11-13 studying secondary school have been participated. 224 of them don’t do sports and 262 of them do sports the total number is 486. In order to determine the level of aggression on the students who have attended this search, “Aggression Inventory” developed by Tuzgöl (1998) and Optimism inventory by Çalık (2008) for secondary school student in are used. While T- Test and one-way ANOVA was applied for statistical analysis of data also for analysis of demographic features percent – frequency distribution issued. When we look at the research findings, a significant difference in the aggression and optimism score hasn’t been determined by depending on whether the students do sports or not (p>0,05). Whereas significant differences has been seen on the average aggression score of students according to the gender, parent’s educational level and low-income subgroups’(p<0.05), statistical differences have been found when considering age, number of siblings and doing branch(p>0,05). When we look at the optimism scores of students, significant differences has been realised in the variables of age, father’s educational level, income level(p<0.05); but it is not the same when variables of gender, parent’s educational level, number of siblings and doing branch of sports are examined (p>0,05). According to the study, it cannot be said that doing sports is effective on the situation of aggression and optimism but when looking at the literature, many researchers and experts state that doing sports has effect on individuals’ physical and psychological conditions.
