Abstract:

The multidimensional transformation in neoliberal economic policies has built a political order leading to dependence between political actors and the economic elite. In this way, conditions emerged in which ordinary citizens were increasingly excluded from decision-making mechanisms. The weakening of the social state causes public discontent and distrust over politics. In addition, due to this distrust of the voters, a decrease is observed in the turn-out rates. Traditional political party systems are leading to collapse. This process, defined by Colin Crouch as "post-democracy," laid the groundwork for the emergence of new political movements. Populist politics is rising under the same circumstances. As a result of new political searches, there may be changes in participation in politics and organization. The Pirate Party, which has a special place among the new political movements, has various claims and suggestions about the current problems and future of democracy. The most significant proposal of the Pirate Party, which promises to use digitalization for hybrid political participation and representation, is a liquid democracy model.
