İlhami Turan, Cumhuriyet sonrası Latin alfabesinin kabul edilmesiyle başlayan süreç içinde kaligrafi ve Latin yazı sanatının ülkemizde eğitimi ve öğretimi konuları başta olmak üzere, yazı ve tasarım sanatlarının modern ve çağdaş bir seviyeye ulaşabilmesi adına yoğun çaba ve gayret gösteren, orijinal tasarımlara imza atan kompozisyon gücü yüksek bir akademisyen, grafik tasarım ve yazı sanatçısıdır. Sanat hayatında kendine özgü tarz ve stiller ile yorumlamış olduğu afiş, kitap-dergi kapağı, ambalaj, logo, amblem vb. yanı sıra, Latin harflerini yazmadaki büyük hüneri, ustalığı ve mahareti ile modern tarz yazı ve harf tasarımlarına da hayat veren sanatçının bir çok el yazması eserleri bulunmaktadır. Akademisyen kimliğinin yanı sıra grafik sanatları konusundaki bilgi birikimini, yarım asrı aşkın süren tüm deneyimlerini öğrencilerine aktarabilmeyi vazife addeden Turan’ın gerek bu sektörde, gerekse akademisyen kimliği ile halen görev yapan birçok öğrencisi bulunmaktadır. Prof. Emin Barın’ın üniversitede ve atölyesinde öğrencisi olmuş, sonraki dönemlerde de asistanlık görevini üstlenmiştir. Ele alınan bu çalışma ile, İlhami Turan’ın akademisyen sanatçı kimliği ile ortaya koymuş olduğu yazı ve yazı tasarımlarına dair çalışmaları, Latin harf ve alfabe tasarımları, serbest yazıları, özel klasik yazı kompozisyonları, ambalaj, logo ve amblem gibi tasarım çalışmaları, öğrenimi, tasarım süreçleri, akademik hayatı ve eserleriyle ilgili karakteristik özellikleri üzerinde durularak bu bağlamda değerlendirilmiş; grafik tasarım, hat, kaligrafi ve yazı tasarımlarına dair tarihi süreçler hakkında kısa ve öz bilgilere de yer verilmiştir. Sanatçının Cumhuriyet sonrası Emin Barın ekolü diye adlandırılan Türk Latin kaligrafi sanatının devamı niteliğindeki gelişmelere yapmış olduğu değerli katkıları ile birlikte; mahareti, ustalığı ve kendine has üslup ve tarzlarda yorumladığı alfabe ve harf tasarımlarının yanısıra sanatsal çalışmaları, hem akademik anlamda hem de ulusal ve uluslararası başarıları ile modern ve çağdaş Türk yazı sanatının gelişmesine ve yaygınlaşmasına dair değerli katkıları vurgulanmaya çalışılmıştır.
Ilhami Turan, in the process that begins with the adoption of the post-Republican Latin alphabet, is a high-level academic, graphic design and writing artist with the composition power, which has intense efforts and efforts in order to reach a modern and contemporary level of writing and design arts, including the teaching and teaching subjects of caligraphy and Latin writing art in our country. In the art life he has interpreted with his own style and styles, book-magazine cover, packaging, logo, emblem, etc. In addition, there are many handwriting works of the artist that give life to the modern style of writing and letter designs with the great courtesy, mastery and skill in writing Latin letters. In addition to the academic identity as well as the accumulation of knowledge in the graphic arts, Turan’s responsibility to transfer all his experience for more than half a century to his students, there are many students who still work in this sector, if necessary with the academic identity. Prof. Emin Barin was a student at the university and at the workshop, and in the subsequent period he took over the role of assistant. With this study, the works on the writing and writing designs that Ilhami Turan has revealed with the academic artist identity, Latin letters and alphabet designs, free writings, special classical writing compositions, packaging, logo and emblem design works, learning, design processes, academic life and the characteristic characteristics of his works have been evaluated in this context; the graphic design, line design, caligraphy and writing designs have also been included in short and original information on the historical processes. With the valuable contributions of the artist to the development of the continuous nature of the Turkish Latin caligraphic art, which is called Emin Bar's edge after the Republic; the alphabet and literary designs he interpreted in his own style and styles, as well as his artwork, his academic and national and international achievements and the valuable contributions to the development and dissemination of modern and contemporary Turkish writing art have been tried to emphasize.

Along with the valuable contributions of the artist to the developments that are the conti-nuation of the Turkish Latin calligraphy art, which is called the Emin Barın school after the Republic; In addition to his dexterity, mastery and the alphabet and letter designs he in-terpreted in his own unique style and styles, his artistic works, both academic and national and international successes, and his valuable contributions to the development and spread of modern and contemporary Turkish calligraphy have been tried to be emphasized.
