Abstract:

This study aims to investigate the impact of high school 8th grade students on the teaching of the subject by gradually achieving the activities and mathematical expressions in the class without using the formula directly. The study group consists of 15 (10 girls, 5 boys) 8th grade students who study in a secondary school in Namyaman or Stelikhan district. There are 7 students in the experimental group, 8 in the control group. The research is designed according to the semi-experimental design of the final test control group. When the 5E model is applied to the control group and the experiment group, the study group has been asked to obtain mathematical expression by making measurements and obtaining data, starting from the tools designed in the framework of Design Based Science Education (TTFE) in the discovery stage. In the evaluation phase, BMBT was applied as the last test to both groups and lasted four weeks after the durability test. For the analysis of the data, Mann Whitney U and Wilcoxon tests were applied to determine whether there is a difference between the two independent groups and the level of p<0.05 was considered meaningful. Statistical analyses have found that the pre-test and final-test score difference in the experiment group was greater, but there was no significant difference between the control and experiment groups. It was also observed that according to the order average and the order sum, the results of the analysis were in favour of the experiment group. According to the results of the durability test, the test group and the control group’s final test score average and the durability test score average are close to each other.
