Abstract:

Aim: It is aimed to evaluate the attitudes of nurses working in intensive care regarding their caregiver roles in terms of some variables. Method: The universe of this descriptive study consists of 307 nurses working in the intensive care units of all state hospitals in a province of the Black Sea Region. Sample selection was not made, and 202 nurses who agreed to participate in the study at the time of the study were included as improbable. Introductory characteristics form prepared by the researchers and the "Attitude Scale of Nurses to Caregiver Roles" were used as data collection tools. Results: 70.8% of the nurses participating in the study were female and 29.2% were male. It was determined that 85.6% of the nurses participating in the study received in-service training on the caregiver roles of nursing. In the study, when the mean scores of the Attitudes Related to the Nurses' Caregiver Roles Scale (HBRTÖ) were compared according to the gender of the nurses, the mean score of women was found to be higher than that of men. When the marital status of the married male nurses participating in the study was compared with the HBRTÖ Protecting the Individual and Respecting Their Rights sub-dimension, the attitudes of married male nurses towards their caregiver roles were found to be more positive than single male nurses. (p=0.021). Conclusion: It was found that married male nurses have more positive attitudes towards their caregiver roles than single male nurses. It was determined that the attitudes of the nurses towards their caregiver roles were positive and that the variables of age, gender, and the nurses' ability to provide adequate care to the patients did not affect the attitudes of the nurses towards their caregiver roles.
