Abstract:

Environmental issues, among the most important issues awaiting the solution of our time, have reached global dimensions by the end of the 20th century. With the 21st century it has become a threat to all humanity.

Global environmental problems such as air pollution, water pollution, ozon layer destruction, rainforest extinction, increased natural disasters, global warming and climate change have made solutions necessary on the national and international scope, in this sense environmental management has become extremely important. The understanding that many of the environmental problems are local sources and that these problems are prevented from turning into universal dimensions highlights the importance and responsibility of local governments in this area. In this regard, the establishment of the environmental management in Turkey has given the local government bodies important tasks, powers and responsibilities in the legislation.

In this study, the establishment of environmental management in Turkey was examined in particular by local governance bodies, and in the context of the legislation the responsibilities, powers and responsibilities of local governance bodies related to the environment were addressed.
